Residential
The Arc of Southwest Georgia’s Residential Program is funded by Medicaid waivers and State Funding to provide for people with disabilities. This program serves people in many different settings –apartments, semi-independent settings, group homes, family homes and some people even own their own home. The State funding and Medicaid waivers allow Providers, like The Arc of Southwest Georgia, to hire direct support staff to assist people with disabilities. This means that people living in our communities have greater independence and a better chance of making a life for themselves. The services we provide to people include personal support to allow them to learn how to care for themselves and their homes, day services to allow people to interact with community members in all neighborhoods, and Care Management to assist with arranging needed services and supports. We find that anyone who stays busy and is a part of their own community is much happier and more likely to give back to that neighborhood.
Waiver Services
Waiver Services in Georgia have undergone a tremendous change in the past couple of years. Georgia has two main waivers for the Residential Provider at this time, the COMP waiver and the NOW waiver. The COMP waiver is designed for people who need more supports than just a couple of hours a day. The COMP waiver is put in place to support someone for up to 24 hours a day in order for them to be able to live in the community. The NOW waiver is designed to support in their family homes, or for someone who needs less support.
